Interesting Facts about Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bosnia and Herzegovina – is a country in the Southern Europe in Balkans. Bosnia and Herzegovina has 24,5 km of the cost of the Adriatic Sea. Bosnia and Herzegovina is a former part of Yugoslavia. Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro – are the neighbors of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Majestic mountains and beautiful pure rivers, extreme rafting, interlacing of the different cultures and lots of interesting historical monuments – all this you can find in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

1. Bosnia and Herzegovina – is a one of the ancient crossroads of civilization. The ancient land of Illyria, the border between the Western Roman Empire and the Byzantium. In VII this land was settled by the Slavic tribes. In 1383 begun the Turkish occupation of these lands. Four centuries Bosnia was ruled by the Ottoman Empire, and Sarajevo was the capital of the protectorate. In the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina preserved many architectural monuments of the Byzantine and of the Ottoman periods.

2. The national cuisine of Bosnia and Herzegovina emerged as a result of the mixing of South Slavic, German, Turkish and Mediterranean culinary traditions. Basis of local dishes – meat and vegetables, and meat products. Citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina eat plenty of dairy products, especially cheese. Bread and cereals are very widespread.
For the meat products are most widely used: beef, lamb and pork, mostly grilled on an open fire or stewed.

Bosnia and Herzegovina – is a paradise for persons who adore meat. Here you can taste a wide variety of meat dishes at very low prices. Food in Bosnia is amazingly delicious.

3. Bosnia and Herzegovina – is a federal democratic republic consisting of three equal entities: the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Republika Srpska and the Brcko District.

4. The siege of Bosnia and Herzegovina is considered the longest in the history of the modern world. It lasted 1,395 days and claimed the lives of more than 10 thousand people! It is noteworthy, that among the victims there is 1601 baby! More than 50 thousand citizens were seriously injured and perhaps some of them died from injuries in hospitals. Most of them were maimed for all life.

5. The best rafting in Europe is in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

6. When Sarajevo in the 1990s was under siege, shells exploded in the city. In places where were killed, more than 50 people, crater in the pavement were filled not the new asphalt, it was filled the red resin. Therefore, even many years after the war, you can see the scars of it, nicknamed «Sarajevo roses».

7. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, there are the three official languages: Croatian, Bosnian and Serbian.

8. Islam – is the main religion of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Islam professes greater than the third of the population. In Bosnia and Herzegovina also there are many Christians.

9. The currency of Bosnia and Herzegovina has a quite interesting name – the convertible mark or the Bosnian mark.

10. Almost the all territory of the country is covered by the mountain meadows and forests.

11. In the country is very well developed agriculture and breeding of different animals. These two industries bring the main income to the treasury of the Bosnia and Herzegovina.

12. The head of Bosnia and Herzegovina – is the Presidency of the Republic, which includes one representative from each nation: Bosnians, Croats and Serbs.

13. Internal transport of the country is represented by the buses and the trains. Domestic flights in Bosnia-Herzegovina are not carried out.

14. The capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina – is Sarajevo. Sarajevo is the largest city in the country. In Sarajevo, there are 106 mosques and many monuments of the Ottoman Empire. On the streets of Sarajevo, there are special cranes from which you can drink the water. The water in Bosnia and Herzegovina is very clean.
